This Privacy Statement explains how the independent operator of troyeslpretest.com ("we," "us," or "the Site") handles information when you use the English pretest or ask to receive information about TROY ESL.
1. Information we collect
Information you submit
If you choose to send the interest form, we collect:
- Your name, email address, and country.
- Your total score, score percentage, estimated CEFR level, and probable TROY ESL level.
- Your confirmation that you agreed to submit the information.
- The submission date and time, which may be recorded automatically.
The form does not submit your individual answers to the 20 quiz questions. You can take the pretest without sending the interest form.
Optional Google Analytics data
Google Analytics loads only if you select Accept analytics. It may receive general usage and device information, approximate location derived from an IP address, and events such as quiz start, quiz completion, lead-form view, and lead-form submission. Quiz events may include the score and estimated levels.
We do not send your name, email address, or form-entered country to Google Analytics. Google states that raw IP addresses are used for functions such as approximate geolocation and are discarded after use.
Security and technical data
Our hosting and security providers may process information such as IP address, browser or device type, requested page, request time, and security events to deliver the Site, prevent abuse, and diagnose errors. Cloudflare may also provide cookie-free performance analytics. Where Cloudflare security features require a cookie, that cookie is used for security or other essential operation.
2. Why we use information
- To provide your informal pretest result.
- To forward an information request to appropriate TROY ESL representatives and allow them to respond.
- To operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the Site.
- To understand aggregated use of the pilot when analytics consent has been given.
- To comply with applicable law and protect legal rights.
3. Legal bases where European privacy law applies
Where the EU or UK GDPR or similar law applies, we rely on:
- Consent for optional Google Analytics and for sending the interest form.
- Steps taken at your request when you ask for information about TROY ESL.
- Legitimate interests in operating, securing, and diagnosing the Site, provided those interests do not override your rights.
- Legal obligations when information must be retained or disclosed by law.
4. Cookies and local storage

5. When information is shared
We do not sell personal information. Information may be shared with:
- Designated TROY ESL representatives who respond to your request.
- Google services used to transmit and store form submissions, including Google Apps Script and Google Sheets.
- Google Analytics, but only after analytics consent.
- Cloudflare and our web-hosting provider for delivery, security, logs, and performance.
- Authorities or other parties when reasonably necessary to comply with law, prevent harm, or protect legal rights.
6. International processing
The Site is operated from the United States. Information may be processed or stored in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate. Those countries may have privacy laws different from the laws where you live.
7. Retention
- Lead submissions are normally retained for no longer than 12 months after submission or the last relevant contact, unless a longer period is required by law or reasonably needed to resolve a request.
- Event-level Google Analytics data may be retained for up to 14 months, subject to the property's configured settings and Google's separate retention rules.
- Security and server logs are retained according to provider schedules and only as long as reasonably needed for security and troubleshooting.
8. Your choices and rights
You may decline analytics and still use the pretest. You may also use the controls above to change your analytics preference.
Depending on the law where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, or portability of your personal information. You may withdraw consent at any time without affecting processing that occurred before withdrawal. You may also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.
To make a request, email [email protected]. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.
9. Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, including HTTPS and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so absolute security cannot be guaranteed.
10. Children
The Site is not directed to children under 13. Do not submit the interest form if you are under 13. If the law where you live requires parental permission at an older age, ask a parent or guardian before submitting personal information.
11. Third-party websites
The Site links to Troy University and other third-party websites. Their own privacy statements govern information collected on their sites. You can review the Troy University Privacy Statement, Google Privacy Policy, and Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
12. Changes to this statement
We may update this statement when the pilot, service providers, or legal requirements change. The effective date at the top will be updated when material changes are made.
